Of the available colors for '81, I really like the bright blue metallic and the charcoal metallic. I'm not very fond of silver for an '81...a pewter color (dark silver metallic) is much more to my liking. Just my .02...
Had a Cortez Silver '69 427/390 HP coupe - compliments all day long. Beautiful color. My opinion, I would go silver - Just look at golfradict's gorgeous '81 , then you will know what I mean. Can't go wrong with silver Regards. BK3

I am sort of in the same boat. My car is a 71 with non matching # so I am painting it the color I want. I love the blues but would rather stay away from black interiors. My interior is pretty much shot so I get to pick that too. Red is my favorite interior which leads me to white, red or silver exterior. I am really leaning towards Cortez Silver at this point. Best of luck
As far as the color choice ,alot has to do with the interior color , my 81 was originally Silver and had the Silver leather interior ...besides the fact that it needed a paint job anyway and that the silver / silver combo made me think of COORS LIGHT everytime I looked at it ...
went with LeMans Blue with a silver fade ... Just My Opinion !
silver with some kind of black accents or stripes is really sharp with a red interior. mine is black
