well my dad just gave me his 79 vette project car as a AIT graduation present. he bought it 3 years ago for 1700$, drove it here and there, had a few things done to it ( flowmaster 44 manifold back exhaust, shocks, tie rods, tires, ect) unitll it died. i havent been down to see the car in ages but i suspect its a hot battery cable grounding or a nasty alternator short. this vette has led a hard life, the previous owners swapped a motor in but did a terrible hack job, loose wires everywhere, no gauges.. damn dirty shame. the front and rear main seals in the auto tranny are both gone and the differential needs a new gasket. but it is a good 4.10 posi differential! i've still got to figure out how to get it from memphis tn to branson mo but i think uhaul has my back. i'm in no hurry to get this running, i want to do it right the first time and this vette means alot to me simply because its my dads vette.
i guess my question is where do i start? i'm not a certified mechanic by any means but i've ripped a few 350s apart and done everything there is to do on my old truck and my buddies ricers. and i definately need a wiring diagram, i'm gonna have to rewire damn near the whole thing.
thanks much!
Welcome to the forum, congrats on the new ride. You can learn alot here and get lots of usefull info, just have to ask.
To start, I would suggest getting AIM manuals to get you going.

Also buy the GM Service manual not the Haynes books you find in your local parts stores. Good luck with the project.
