Since my gas tank is out, I'm repairing my rear tailight wiring and fiber optic cables. I was going to try to cut corners and get a repair kit, but kinda wanted to do it right. I ordered a complete rear FO harness when I saw that Bubba tried to (ok he didn't try, he did) CRIMP the fiber optic cable.
No you didn't really do that!! Bubba is an idiot. Anyway, almost three hours later, I had the FO routed in the correct position, turned on the lights and it works awesome. Such a minor improvement, but well worth the effort. One less item on the never ending to do list.

Hi ccv,
I don't see why that connector won't work.
The lights got to be trapped in the connector tube, so all it can do is to jump from one cable to the other.... right????
Regards,
Alan
I replaced my rear harness last month and it looked like whoever worked on mine, worked on yours too. He spliced into the FO harness to provide a ground for the electric fuel pump. Needless to say, he had to splice into another wire. I feel much better now having a correct unmolested rear harness now.
Splicing the fiber optic like that is pretty bad. I wonder how long ago this was done? If it was in the mid 70s did they even know about Fiber Optics FO back then to realize what they were splicing into?
OK, I'll bite. What's the fiber optic for? Probably another critical safety item my car's missing!
YES Van it is a critical safety item. If it isn't working or you don't have one you should NOT be driving your car.

Actually....... the FO come from your front and rear lights and indicate on a panel on your console whether they are working or not. A gimick but a very neat gimick.
I remember when I 1st sat in a '71 in early eighties I was amazed by that neat feature, who ever designed it did it very well, as I still have all the original front/back harnesses and still its working fine.
A few years back,my son asked if I could change the electric fuel pump on his friends Camaro, when I got under the car I could not believe what I saw, some Bubba had used lamp cord and electric tape for the power wire, turned out no problem with the fuel pump, just the wiring job,so I wired it correctly,I can just see Mrs. Bubba trying to turn on her living room lamp!
