Okay brothers....give this one a shot. Friend of mine in trouble needing cash. Not registered since 1995. Fairly straight 1976 body, engine pulled and laying back in the bay not bolted, jus' laying, L-48, super t-10, interior fair, slight rust, re-paint, bodywork on RF, 110,000 miles, at least....damn, I do not need another project, but I LOVE '76's...... What's a fair/safe offer????

Hmmm...

brown/brown '76 (bad colors, unpopular year) $8500 in decent shape

- 3000 body/paint repair (assuming it doesnt need a full repaint)
- 3000 engine, underhood mechanicals
- 2000 interior
- 2000 incidentals/labor we havent thought of
- 1000 tires/rallys

Still don't know if the paint needs more than that, mechanicals need more than that, frame birdcage is really OK, etc, etc, etc...

Done the math yet?

Actually, it doesn't look in all that bad of condition.

HOWEVER, you will be upside down in no time.

If the paint really is drivable, and you don't do anything but maybe buff and clean, you are going to have probably 10 hours before you are happy.

I assume the seats are shot, thus the furry covers. So you are looking at $600 - $1000 right there and a bunch of labor.

Getting the engine back in place (why was it pulled?) will be a day's job getting it in, and everything hooked back up. Plus all the stuff you will need, like a clutch and pressure plate, and who knows what is missing. $300 - $800

Tires are shot, so you need new, even if you run those rims. $750 - $1000

I don't see the bodywork you are referring to on the RF.

You haven't mentioned brakes, you WILL have to do them $500.

You are going to be on the low side around $2000 in parts, more likely $3500 in parts, and then around 30 hours of labor (figure your time at $30/hr = $900).

Then there is all the stuff we can't see and haven't been told.

Floor rust - '76 are metal floors.

Engine rebuild - $2500

Missing stuff - sky's the limit

Paint really needs to be replaced - $4000 to $10,000.

At that point, the interior had better be really nice, or you have $2000 in interior.

Bottom line, if you are a really nice guy and a friend, you are going to want to help the guy, but anything over $1500 is way too much. $1000 is probably reasonable. If the engine needs rebuilding, and may since it is uncovered in picture so is it full of rain? Then you are looking at anything over $500 is basically giving him a handout.

Actually, I like the chocolate cars of the '70s. But not everyone does.

For me, I would feel safe at 3k and under. Better at 2500! Its not in real ruff shape. But will take $$ to get her nice again.
