Default Lower ball joint bolt question

I have started reassembling my 73 and have mounted my front A arms and spindles. I have noticed that there are steering "bump stops" on the trailing edge of the steering linkage that hit installed brackets on the rear side of the lower a arms. My question arises from the oversize bolt head that secures the lower ball joint in place. When you turn the spindle to full lock, the caliper bracket will hit this bolt. Is this a part of the design or should this bolt be on the back side of the ball joint mount. I don't think this will be an issue when the steering linkage is connected but I am curious. See arrow in picture below.

Here is the link to my rebuild if anyone is interested:

On the corvette, the stops are a welded piece on the rear of the a arm that the knuckle arm hits.
That bolt is for other applications that the ball joint fits.
Looks like you have aftermarket arms with the stops bolted on

Just curious. What coating do you have on your brake rotor surface?

Thanks "noonie" they are VD&P "A" arms for the tranverse leaf spring conversion and do have the piece of angle iron bolted on to stop the steering link I think.

I think they call it an "E coating". They are from Wilwood and it wears of the braking surface when you start using them but remains on the other areas afterwards to prevent rusting.
