Default 82 Power antena

Hi
When I plugged in the power antena on my 82 CE, the motor came on even with the ignition turned off and the antena is not coming out! Looks like I need a new power antena but why would the motor be running when the key is turned off?

Tks
P.

the antenna is probably trying to retract (go down), but cant because the plastic mast cable inside is more than likely broken. so it cant trip the limit switch, it will run continously. the up circuit is powered through the key switch, the down circuit is hot all the time.
the cable inside is replaceable.

Thanks. I will take the Power antenna apart to look at the cable. Do you know the best site to buy the cable? Probably a lot cheaper than buying the whole antenna!

There are no repro 78-82 antennas on the market currently.

The company that was making them, has been out of them for many months. They where having some reliability problems with them, so they've been unavailable while they correct the problems. Last I heard, they expect to have them available again later this year.

If your antenna motor is still working (which it sounds like it is), the mast repair kit should fix your problem. The kit will work with all 79-82 power antennas, and maybe some late 78 antennas. Just about all of the Corvette vendors sell the kit, with the price running $35-40, depending on the vendor.

I've bought about a dozen 'kits' from them.
Fast service, reasonable price.
They DO also work for the 78-e79 antennas, just cut the hook off the end.
They also have a little sleeve at the mast/cable connection that I usually remove. don't know why it's even there.

Unfortunately, no one makes the kit for CB antennas anymore(4" longer). I inquired last year and they said they may start producing those soon.

I just put one of these in our '81. Don't pull it apart untill you read the instructions. One side faces up when you pull it apart or the guts all fall out. Delco side up!!! Drill the brass rivets out.

Quick tip....
Instead of drilling the rivits out, take a hammer and small screwdriver and bend up the flange on the rivit and then punch it through the hole.
They like to spin when you drill them
