The brace came away from the body at the tip of the hood but on the body, there is a gap there now, whats the best way to fix it..
I'm assuming that the brace you are talking about is the 3 or so inch wide brace located right in front of the hood between the headlights....
If so a replacement brace ran me all of 40 to 50 bucks for both my 76 and 79... it was glued to the body of the car .. I had to hand make a few chisels to remove mine and it was a slow process ...replacement was very easy to bolt up both ends and then re glued it to the body
does you car have any visible dimples in its body in the area of the brace?

If it is the brace separated from the skin in the area forward of the hood and above the headlight cans?
If so, my 81 did this when we put her in the oven during paint. Talk about a heart stopper- brand new paint job and now a support bracket.
What I did was sand the brackets upper side (that meets the fiberglass), then used a modified hacksaw blade to cut several grooves into the fiberglass under side where it meets the bracket. I then drilled 5 or 6 1/4 inch holes into the bracket upper surface (from the underside) all in prep for the new epoxy. The epoxy was 2 parts that mixed as they were forced thru a single tube- got it from a PPG paint store and have forgotten its name. Applied the epoxy and held the fiberglass back in place with 4 C-clamps (many layers of towels to keep from scratching) then let it dry for 24-30 hours. Not a problem since. Epoxy has held well.
Hope this makes sense? This is MY experience and way of repairs. Have never been called Bubba, but I know its coming ...lol...
Just wanted to add: When drilling the brackets upper part from the underside, I used a Drimmel Tool and marked the drill bit with duct tape to help stop drilling . Was a simple job using the Drimmel Tool as a hand drill...
