Looking at a 74
Looking for a bit of advice. I am about a hair close of pulling the trigger on a 74. Here is what I know, the numbers do not match, it was originally an L48 now its a crate 350, I do not know more than that on the engine at this point.
The bird cage from what I can get into at shop it is sitting in, appears to be solid. I was not able to get my camera inside to snap a pic, but I did get a light and a small stemmed mirror. The door jams seemed to be solid. The floor pans seemed to be solid, when pressure was applied, and tapped with an open end wrench.
Underneath the frame is straight and the mechanic at the shop said nothing is leaking and to him every thing looks solid.
Here is the kicker it has a 78 front end on the car. With the Anniversary badge and logo on it. The paint looks like an Earl Shibe special. The motor has no fan in the fan housing, but it does have the electric fan behind the radiator. The AC compressor was removed, The body has had the wheel flairs added to it already and look to be installed and body worked correctly. The front spoiler looks like it was drugged through a gravel pit.
The interior is in fair shape and needs some TLC. A complete replacement of the dash and consoles, carpet etc. But can still be driven as is.
The car was a daily driver and can be that way again. The asking price is 4200. Pics will be loaded shortly
Unless you want a yellow car that's neither 'fish nor fowl', it's too much money.
To my eye it's a pretty nasty conglomeration of parts combined to make a car.
Sorry!
Regards,
Alan
All feed back is welcome, good, bad, better, worst. Would rather folks with more insight than myself give me the skinny instead of being the owner of something that is not worth the dollar I paid...
Thanks for the info.
IF! you want a hot rod, Then maybe this would be a good car for you. You could have fun getting the interior back looking good and sorting out and cleaning up that engine bay.
For that price, you really have to like what you are getting and feel like it can be yours. There is no doubt you are buying some other guys headaches.
Here is a question. Why was the front switched out? Probably wrecked. I would make sure it will hold an alignment and check the tread on the tires. If they are too new they may be trying to hide something.
Mr J.
That has been my question all along. About the front end. If it was not for the emblem that stated 1978 on it, I never would have seen caught it. I asked the owner today for the previous owner, and to no avail.
Each question I ask about the car, the car owner states she bought it as is, she is polite. I think she jsut doesnt know and someone may habve taken advantage of her lack of knowledge. Hence I have the Corvette Forum to double check what I am doing.

Thanks for all of the help, maybe one day I will be in a place to repay it to the next new guy.

this one looked like it would be a continuous project with something new to be done to it on a continuing basis.
