Default Steering column Uh Oh!

Working on 73jst4fun steering column. This summer while autoxing his steering column became quite loose. I thought it was the common problem of the 4 bolts coming loose on the head of the steering knuckle. Well he got the column to me and upon disassembling the column I found this. The actual tube had split. Someone had been in there before and pryed the ends apart to get the column apart. I think they weakened the upper part of the tube and it finally let go. The 4 bolts were snug, so this was allowing the knuckle to wobble. I have an excellent welder local who Icall for jobs like this. He said no problem and will have it back to me tomorrow. The upper housing bearings were also toast. I found loose ball bearings all through the column so it was time for a rebuild. Need to order a couple of parts but it should be done in a week or so.

The guy did a great job welding it and I ground it down and painted it up. You will never know it had been broken.
