Hey Folks,
Called Tirerack today and was all set to order a set of BF Goodrich Radial TAs - 225/70/15 for my 69 and lo and behold, they are on backorder until sometime in June. Really don't want to wait that long so I'm planning to see if a local vendor has the tires (I know I will pay more locally). In the event I can't find the TAs, what do you guys and gals suggest?
Thanks,
Javaman
My local guy always tries to match Tire Rack. The 10% tax here makes that impossible, but at least he gets close.
I had 17" rims, and Michelin PS2s were one of the best upgrades I made to the car. If they make PS2s in your size, and you don't mind spending the exrta $$$, then that's what I'd do.
Firestone Firehawks. Just an 'FYI' if you decide to go local, check the date codes on what you're buying. Make sure they're not old stock from 3-4 years ago....
I was talking to a friend of mine today that has run into the same problem looking for BF T/A 235 60 15's for his 69 Camaro.... On back order with no ETA.
As always, my thanks to everyone for taking the time to answer. Checked out Coker and Discount Tire and they both price out at $109. Tirerack by far is the best at $82. Of course it doesn't matter if you can't get the tires!

It seems they only manufacture when they get a large enough order (at least this is what I've been told).
Knowing that the Goodyear Eagle GT was discontinued, I e mailed Goodyear and they located a bunch of them in their Allentown warehouse. I had them shipped to a local dealer. $105.00 per tire. They were produced 5 months ago.
Being a tire is on back order doesn't that scare you a little? I mean back order could have many reasons and one it being a obsolete size and therefore you are likely to get a tire that has extended it's shelf life.
I went through this on my 97 camaro when I tried to get the original size bf goodrich 235/55/16 tires and wound up with tires coded around the age of the car this happened about 5 years ago.
Many things prematurely started to go wrong with them and the most serious was massive sidewall cracking and bubbles in the sidewalls and they always seemed to lose pressure for no apparent reason and the large chain store blamed my chrome rims as the cause of the air loss and worn suspension as the cause of how the car didn't have good stability on the road.
After the back and forth finger pointing they were replaced with I forget the brand name tires but they were 245/50/16's and afterward the car drove excellent again and never had air pressure loss again.
Now I am more observant of the tires date code. I believe the 235's were date coded around 1999 and I had them put on the car in 2006

Sounds like an unusual size for a C3 to me. Most of them that I see have 235/60/15s on them. Most that don't have 245s or 255s. Is there a reason you want that size?

Probably because that's the metric equivalent to what originally came on the car. I have P225/70-15's on mine.

If they had the tires sitting around on a shelf somewhere, then they wouldn't be backordered.
my thinking was that if they had the tires laying around somewhere they would sell them to me.they only make money when they sell you the tire.with that mindset i joined the backorder crowd and hope to see my tires soon.i will be running suv/crossover tires as i believe they will perform better than cosmetic tires.
If you have a "Sam's Club" membership, you can go online and see if they still are taking orders for the BFG T/A Radials. I bought mine there a year ago and there was no problem getting them. They only handle 235 width and larger (on the 60 series 15" tires), but that's what I wanted anyway. 235's will fit any C3 without rubbing.
