got a 76 and when at idle or stop the exhaust is rattling where it goes through the frame cross member any ideas how to get rid of or quiet this would be great.
There's a U shaped bracket mounted between the tranny & frame that the pipes are suppose to be clamped to. Sometimes this bracket is missing. See if it's there. Maybe the pipe clamps are loose and thats all.

Oh how I can relate. I also have a 76 that has been converted to a true dual exhaust. It does the same thing. I have purchased the replacement bracket, but have not gotten up the nerve to undo the transmission mount in order to install it yet.
You may also want to make sure that the nuts are tight where it attaches to the headers. Since there is not much support mine tend to work free and rattle even more.

Sure is embarrassing at a stop light...
It's very east to install the bracket. Loosen & remove the two tranny cushion mount bolts. Jack up the tranny a bit and slide the bracket in place. Start the bolts by hand to get them started and then lower the tranny and finish tightening the bolts. Should take a half hour at best.
