I think I found the relay, 2 brown, 1 blue, 1 green white
If I unplug this relay the CHOKE LIGHT stayes on!
Plug it back in
If I Unplug the blue wire at the choke heater unit on the carborator it self the light goes OUT.
Check the Gauges fuse....I don't know much but when I took out the Gauges fuse to track down an ignition problem the Choke Light stayed on.
Good luck.
Andy
Hey Andy,
Going through posts to gets some idea's on what my problem may be and I ran across this post of yours. I have an 81. When I got the car, the electric choke was not connected. Someone had cut the pigtail off; all I had was a green wire. I could not find a pigtail to fit. To make a long story short, I got the electric coil & pigtail from Cliffs. When I connect the pigtail, my Choke Light stays on and I get a rough Idle. Your Rough Idle caught my attention. Why would I get a rough idle? The butterfly on the carb never changed positions when I plugged into the electric choke. I'm going to go and look to see if I have a bad fuse. Thanks Andy.

I don't have my service manual with me at work but I think I remember seeing the wiring diagram and the choke light circuit goes through the oil pressure switch I believe?
It's a simple circuit if someone can find a wiring diagram and post it up here, it shouldn't be hard to find out where to look for the problem. I just don't remember off the top of my head.
Check the choke fuse. If it opens up it dropps out the choke relay and the choke light gets a ground through the choke coil.
Thanks SixFooter, how in the world can I get the 20amp fuse out to check it? It is way up at the top and I can seem to get a hold of it to pull it out. Am I missing a trick here?

Thanks Qwank, I just asked SixFooter if he has a trick on getting the Choke fuse out in order to check it. I thought that would have been my eaisest thing to check. Thanks.
I use a scribe/probe with a bent tip to get fuses out.
Also , yes the diodes in the alternator can cause the choke light to stay on. With everything normal and the engine running you have 12v applied to both sides of the choke relay coil, effectively disabling it, the same on the chooke light. If the fuse opens up, you lose voltage on one side of the relay coil and the relay opens and the choke circuit becomes the ground side for the light. Its kind of a left handed way to do things, but it works.
I have checked the choke fuse and it's good. I also checked that there is 12 volts to the choke element. Heater never heats up. I think the choke heater on the carb is the problem

Well it took me about 30 minutes to get the fuse out and the fuse was the problem, it had blown. I installed a new 20 amp fuse and fixed the problem. Thanks guys.
I third that motion, I replaced my Alternator and she cleared right up.
Damm, I'll have to look into that next spring. My charging light is also dimly lighting so the alternator has been suspected for that light also. The choke light has been flicking on and off for years now!
Thanks!!!!
i too have the same problem ... light won't go out.
choke relay ... okay (even bought new and returned)
fuses okay ... i use a fuse clip (have had it for years)
cleaned altenator ... no change (even bought new, installed and put the old one back in and returned)
repaired charging connector ... had to resolder blade connectors, both broken and greased up.
choke works, stalls engine when i push close.
any other clues? thanks. this forums will always rock!
