How many 68 and 69 vettes out there have gunmetal interior? I'm looking for some replacement pieces such as the windshield post inside pieces. Many suppliers have them in all colors except gunmetal. Can anyone help?
You can re-dye any vinyl/plastic parts to any color very easily. If yours are not damaged, just buy a can of SEM 'ColorCoat' vinyl dye and a bottle/gas sprayer. Clean parts WELL, dry, and shoot new color onto them. They'll be good as new.
If your parts are significantly damaged and they need to be replaced...but can't get them in the Gunmetal color...just re-dye them from whatever color is available using the same method.
I can only say that I strongly recommend buying your vinyl dye in a can (buy a pint...you'll need it all, eventually) from a professional auto body paint supply store. I've heard all the horror stories about using the rattle can "dyes". Buy the right stuff and you will get good results.
According to the Black Book, Gun Metal was only available with black, white and silver exteriors.
I'd guess other exterior colors could be ordered but I have nothing to prove this.
...did they...make gun metal with a blue exterior...

Maybe...Silver69 lists the GM recommended combinations for gunmetal, but it is possible you could get gunmetal with non-recommended colors. The zone office would have probably contacted the ordering dealer to ensure the buyer wanted the gunmetal, but - since the nonrecommended combination was not going to cost GM anything (they already had the exterior paint and the gun metal upholstery package) -- it probably got approved.
my 69 was originally Cortez Silver. i love those gun metal interiors. i think is the most beautiful colour because it makes the car so modern inside ( more than black). people can't believe that it's a 40 years old car
