Sorry, Mr. Horsecop, I mean you no disrespect here, but that is just not quite accurate. It is very easy to be seduced and overpay for a red 72. Ask me how I know.
Engineer Jay, I strongly recommend that you get some help in picking out your first C3 Corvette. As good an ASE mechanic as my brother is, there were some issues that went unnoticed when we checked out my 72 BB when purchasing in '05. Should this happen to you, you will live with these issues until your wallet is thin or your Visa balance is high.
These cars are 40 years old, and may have issues that only C3 experts can detect BEFORE you purchase. The key here is BEFORE you purchase. With the soft economy and $4 gas, there are tons of C3's out there from which to choose. A CF Member in your area would probably be willing to help you in your search. PM me if you wish to discuss this further, as I know a couple of very knowledgeable guys in the Mid Atlantic area that could be a big help to you.

Yeah, I didn't mean that literally. I just meant I was biased towards red 72's. I think he got what I meant!
I'd be leery buying from a used car dealer...the wiper grill is missing, the ac has been disabled, ignition sheilding is missing, you say the steering column was damaged while someone tried to steal it and it needs a tuneup.
Its not any used car dealer, its a used corvette dealer. The owner has a 63 and a 54 he showed me that are his cars, and this one was going to go into his collection but he is willing to sell it because he has too many already. The engine was running last week and it sounded good, unfortunately I have to wait a few more days before I can test drive it as he is still waiting on the AC unit to arrive. I am really looking forward to getting this one, sad I have to wait a few more days, but I have wanted one since I was little, so I guess I can wait a little longer.
I have some more pictures of this one, I went for a test drive last week and it ran and drove real smooth. He is still waiting on the A/C unit to come in.
I will post more pictures when I get home from work, I didn't take any pictures of the few trouble spots on the body, mostly around where the bumpers are the fiberglass is cracking. The guy was planning on driving it himself this summer so all the work he has done has been for that. He is willing to sell it, or rather his wife is encouraging him to sell it as he already has a few other vettes in his collection. His asking price is on the front window of 14,900, does this sound like a good price?
if the 14k is high, what would a decent price be for the car? the interior is decent, exterior needs a paint job and some minor body work. The engine is good, and the suspension is also good.
It`s hard to say what a great price would be. A lot depends on what you are expecting out of the car. Do you want it close to the way it came from the factory etc. To get even the small parts that may not be factory correct any longer can really sneak up on you price wise. A repaint is going to be in the 6000.00 area for a nice one.
Just be sure you check for the obvious main problem of these cars. RUST,RUST,RUST in the birdcage area.
