Doing a LS1 conversion in a '80 vette. I know I can buy a bracket kit for the R4 style compressor. However, I wanted to use the one that came with the engine. I was told I can't use it.. is that true? All I should need is the lines run to the compressor and a bracket in my mind. Correct me if I am wrong...
Not enough to understand why. They started listing off parts and prices. It went from a simple bracket mount to needing a compressor, bracket, tensioner and something else which I could not understand. Oh, also said something about the LS1 engine a/c compressor (from the camaro) is always on and the A/C lines will hit the hood

I know the compressor will not fit in the F-body location. Could be that nobody makes an adapter to mount it higher, and perhaps there are interference issues if it is mounted higher. I think Sanden makes a mini compressor that will mount high up and not interfere with anything.
My suggestion would be to sell the compressor and put the money towards a new setup.
I think it's the LS2 compressors that cannot be used. They are controlled by a separate computer in the original vehicle (Corvette and GTO) and will self destruct if run with just direct power applied.

There is no room at the bottom mounting location for the LS1 compressor in a C3. You can buy a mount that will mount the old style compressor like from a Camaro or older Corvette up higher from Josh - Superpowers over on the other site. I bought them for mine and have not used them yet but they look like the way to go.
