I just finished restoring a 1976 Jeep CJ-7 and I am looking for a new project. I'm really considering a C3 Corvette. I like mixing new technology with classic styling. My Jeep has DVD/Navigation, a good sound system and it's getting fuel injection but I kept the exterior classic Jeep. I would like to do the same with a Corvette. Jeeps have a lot of well known quirks, any I should know about the C3's. I am thinking of getting a '76 to match my jeep.
A little about me: I was in the Army and got out in 2007. I live in Troy, Michigan. I am an engineering student at Lawrence Technological Institute and I am starting my senior year in the Fall.
Welcome to the CF and the C3 world. Thank you for your US Armed Forces service, also.
The search feature will be your friend here. There are many differences of C3 cars over other GM rwd products of the period so you would want to specify what it is you seek.
With your experience twisting wrenches, you may not be intimidated by the myriad of adjustments these cars have. There are many.
Read through the tech/performance section for specific questions to the car, where this general section provides insight to events and people along with the occasional tech questions.
We all like to see pictures and if you already know that routine, great. If not, that would be a good start using the search function on "how to" post them here.
Lots of experienced, friendly, logical, smart folks here. Runs the gamut from hardcore racers to current or former GM engineers to hobbyists of all levels. They've seen most, heard most and offer real help if you're in a bind or just curious. A great crew to learn from. I can attest to that.
Welcome aboard! This a great place to start your adventure in the corvette world just ask the questions and you will get many responses. Big think to look for when buying your first car is rust on the birdcage and frame.
One thing you should know in advance is that Corvette parts are a lot more expensive than Jeep parts. Another thing, Corvettes DO rust. Check the frame and bird cage, repairs can be expensive. Good luck with your project.
With a car dolly and a winch you could use that Jeep to tow your Vette home when it breaks down.
I think you are in for a great project. There is no shortage of parts for these cars and the cool factor is high as well.
AND both Vette's and Jeeps have a wave.
I find myself in my Jeep waving to Vettes and when I'm in my Vette I sometimes find myself waving to Jeeps. To make matters worse, my other car is an Eagle Talon and they wave too. Fortunately there aren't many of those around.

I know all about rust, jeeps are notorious. What is the birdcage? I am looking for a 'vette that has issues because I am going to be ripping it apart anyway. The more that is wrong with it the more excuses I have for my wife. What is the standard engine upgrade in the c3 corvette world. I want either a super or turbo charger and I am going to go fuel injection. This is going to be a long process but I want a unique head turner in the end.
I wanted to post pics but I wasn't sure how it would be received on a Corvette forum. I am guessing that I have to link it to a photobucket? Is there a minimum post amount or something?
I can tell you the guys on here, will be helpful. They have saved my bacon on a vette purchase. Lets just say it was not as advertised. The forum experts on here, was able to spot items that were way off. I would like to think it was my picture taking ability that led them to help me, but these guys are just plain good.
I learned some of the basics of what to look for and what to ask about in my search, and I always come back here to get the say so from the forum.
