I decided to take advantage of one of the first nice days up here in Wisconsinn, and dive the vette to work this morning. Made it to work with no problem, but once I shut it off the white seam started pooring out. The alternator bet had cut throught the upper hose.

I should be able to get a new one easily enough, but since I am in a little bit of a bind I want to make sure to get the right one. Can anyone tell me what the VIN ranges are for early vs late on a 76.

I may end up ordering both just to be safe.

 

No such thing. The cut off was when they ran out of the old parts. A car could have an early radiator and a late something else. Hopefully someone will chime in and let you know how to tell if your radiator is early or late. Good luck.

I found this on another forum "The radiator on an early 76 had a 90 degree elbow coming out of the left tank on top for the return coolant return. The late 76 had a straight neck coming out of the tank."

 

Buy both and return the one you don't need???

Well, here's the early '76 and here's the late '76. According to Eckler's, the early 1976 GM part number is 3946852 and the late '76 P/N is GM# 371443. Which one 'ya got?

 

Acually I ended up having three choices. As Garage-Ghost noted one of the three was for a radiator with a 90 degree elbow. I knew immediately that was not the one for me. The other two options looked similar, but one was 19" and the other 22". I ended up ordering both. As it turn out I needed the 22" Dayco PN E-70862.

I had replaced the Alternator belt earlier this spring, and it looks like the new belt streached a little causing it to bounce, and cut the hose. Made sure to tighent the belt back up, and hopfuly this will be the end of this problem.

The real bummer is that the car is now fixed, but it is still not time to head home from work.
