Default Wiper Headaches

I've read past threads and haven't come across a similar situation...this what I'm facing with on my 70.
Nothing happens when sliding the wiper switch to any speed position...the wiper door doesn't open and wipers don't sweep. I open the wiper door by pulling the override switch (below the steering column), slide the wiper switch and the wipers sweep in both speeds. Turn the wiper switch off and the wipers park. Why isn't the wiper door opening when I slide the wiper switch? Is it a faulty wiper switch or wiper solenoid?
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hi dt,
The wiper switch is good or it wouldn't turn the wiper motor on at all.
I'd check the function of the wiper solenoid valve mounted to the back of the tach housing. It controls the vacuum signal to the wiper relay.
The over-ride bypasses it; that's why you can open the door by pulling the over-ride.
Good Luck!
Regards,
Alan

Put your hand on the solenoid and operate the wiper switch to see if you can feel it click,if it clicks you might get away by cleaning the vac valve in the solenoid.
If you go to the Willcox site he has a help section with more detail on the solenoid.

Hi dt,
Beyond Roger's info....
You can check the operation of the vacuum part of the switch by having the wiper switch off, the vacuum line from a pump like a Mity-Vac on the blue port, and the yellow port blocked... the vacuum should be maintained.
Then turn the switch on with a 12v source, connect the Mity-Vac to the yellow port...the vacuum should be maintained
The yellow port is near the electrical connection, and the blue port is near the open port with the foam filter.
Good Luck!
Regards,
Alan
