If you looking to have the car judged or want to keep it a original as possible, I am pretty sure it is black tape. I don't think zip ties were around in 69.

Thanks Bill

I believe it is wiring harness tape. I have a roll. It is not vinyl electrical tape that has a half-life of about one week. It is a fabric tape that seems to seal itself together with engine heat.

Default Ties

Im not looking to have it judged, just want it to look correct. As for the ties, I do believe there were some sort of ties/wraps that attached the hoses to the forward lamp harness. The ones I purchased appeared to have inserts on them to attach to the body but I can't find where they would insert.
Paul, where would I purchase this tape?

Hi Andy,
I'm sorry I haven't replied to your pm.
The tape that was used WAS sticky black plastic electrical tape.
Paul's right about problems with it staying on. What I found is that you CAN'T stretch it one iota when you put it on or it wants to shrink back on itself which starts to make it want to come un-stuck.
I'll take a couple of new vacuum hose pictures for you today. My 71 is a bit different than your 69, but at least you can see what I did.
Again, sorry I didn't reply sooner!
Regards,
Alan

I've seen hot glue used on regular tape and have also seen a hole burned through with a soldering iron to lock it. Both were done on the bottom side so you couldn't see it.

Default No apologies

Mr Alan, please do not apologize. I am sure I wear you and Roger out with my questions. I am sincerely grateful to both of you for putting up with my lack of common sense.
Which leads to my next question, the aim displays those tie strap or similar ties. Are they supposed to attach to the body or just wrap around the harness? The AIM shows 2 at the front and 1 near the driver's side master brake cylinder.

Google "TESA wiring harness tape."

IF they attach to the body, the AIM shows where/how. Oherwise they bundle the hoses together.

Hi 69ff,
On my 71 the vacuum hose bundle was wrapped with the typical sticky black plastic/vinyl electrical tape.
The 2 hoses running from the vapor canister to the pvc valve and on to the carb were wrapped in old fashion black cloth electrical tape.
Regards,
Alan

Here is a tip that may help with having better results with electrical tape. Cut it with a knife or scizzors, don't just grab the roll and stretch it out till it snaps. I used to HATE electical tape till a friend of mine showed me this.
