Many thanks to forum member, GordonM, for helping me with this '76 and looking her over. He put it up on his lift for me and we checked it out thoroughly - I bought it as a father/son project. It's an L48 with 78,498K miles. Purchased it from the former owner's daughter - it's been sitting since her father died a year and half ago.
The brakes are almost non-existent, rear calibers are leaking and it looks like it may need a new master cylinder.
The bad news is that the firethorn red interior is pretty faded and the floor pan is rusted out. The good news is that the bird cage is fine and there is only minor rust on the frame as well as the fact that the car included 60% of the brand new interior pieces still wrapped in the plastic.
The even better news is that I got it for $2,500.
My son and I will start working on her this Saturday!
Hi jw,
I'll say NICE!!! too.
From the couple of pictures, and at that price, I think you and your son will have a good toy to play with.
Well Done!
Regards,
Alan
I also have to thank everyone on the forum for the free education on C3's and what to look for and what to stay away from, etc. I learned a lot researching the '69 on the forum and researching the threads, etc. and quite a bit of it applies to the '76. This forum is great!
The paint is really good and the body is very straight - it's was originally a white car with red interior and the original owner had the exterior painted black. It's not a bad color combination, though.
Thanks for the replies!
*Correction - I checked the trim tag and it was originally silver with a red leather firethorn interior. Build date of 10/10/75.
