Stop shown. Also check the adjustment procedures in the Notes. Turning the stop down will raise the headlight door in the open position. Avner is correct. A replacement support bracket (75 and up) requires spacers on the front feet when used on the earlier cars.

I suggest that you remove the lamp bezels from both headlamp buckets and watch the operation of the mechanism on each side until you see what behaves differently. I would suppose that there is something bent/broken/missing on the driver's side mechanism; or the adjustment 'stop' for the UP position is badly misadjusted. You may also have one of the d/s side spindles that is fractured/broken so that the system is not actuating properly.

But, looking/assessing the behavior of the bucket mechanisms would be MY first step.
Someone recently revived the thread. I've been working on other things, bit appreciate the new feedback and interest in helping a brother out

Easy Mike - you are a genius! Looking @ the page from the AIM (which I have), you highlighted the strange area Gordon referred to earlier in this thread (post #13). The bracket is attached at the top, but not attached to anything at the bottom - just hanging out there doing nothing. What should the bottom be connected to? Here is a pic with the lights in the down/closed position I took the picture from underneath...

The bolt on the stop comes in contact with the headlight support bracket when the headlight door is up.

I'll take pictures tomorrow after I remove the grill. Something must be missing in the assembly, as the "stop" literally doesn't come into contact with anything when the light is raised. It is hanging in space and seems I can simply remove it without any difference to current operation.

A rubber bumper covers that adjustment bolt and my take up some of the slack when the light is up.

Loup68, I will post a picture later, but when I say that bracket is hanging in the middle of nowhere, it is several inches from anything when in the up and down position. I appear to be missing something. After I post my picture would you mind posting your driver side headlight in the down and up position from the bottom? I want to see what my assembly is missing. That "stop bracket" is not the mechanism stopping my bucket from rising.

Lupigiato73, I will be glad to help you in any way that I can, but your picture would really help. When the headlight is down, that bracket is just hanging there. How is the right headlight?

Lupigiato73, I am guessing that your right side headlight is the correct smaller 68 headlight assembly. I think someone changed your driver headlight to a larger 69 up assembly. If your hood surround is the original, smaller opening, I feel that the later, larger unit will hit the back of the surround. You said that, that was happening. You may have to find an original smaller 68 LH headlight, to solve your problem. My car has the later surround and headlight assemblies, but they operate the same. I think that the early "L" shaped bracket can be used on either side. There were two sets of holes on the bottom to switch the adjustable stop position.

I concur with your suspicions. I'll have an update later today.
