Default Almost running

Well, I almost got it running today. Had it running really. Had a leak on the carb so had to cut it off. Turned out that the fitting for the filter was stripped, ssssoooooooo, new carb on the way. Pick it up tomorrow and will run in the cam tomorrow. After that I will be finishing up the door gaps sanding and get it painted. Feels like I'm getting somewhere again.

Oh, forgot, I had a question. I had to get a transmission cuz the original was missing when I got the boxes of parts. The piece that the speedo cable goes on is messed up. Anyone know what I could get one and a speedo gear that goes in it? Also, I can't tell from the AIM how the hood release works. When it comes up through the latch, what goes on it after that. I can see where the Aim said to bend the wire over, but that isn't going to hold it, what goes on before that.

Any wrecking yard should be able to provide the speedo gear housing. They are all the same for most all gm trans. The speedo gear however will need to be matched to your rear axle ratio and tire size. Can't help on the hood without looking at mine.

You can buy an extended thread fitting for that carb at Quadrajetparts.com for about $15.
I had the same problem when my rebuilder stripped the short threads. It will screw right into the carb and stop the leak.
