I've not removed the entire headlamp bucket assemble before. After disconnecting the lamp connectors and the position lock sensor connector, is it just the removal of the four bolts at the (bottom) corners of the support housing?
I think your going to have to remove the bucket first before removing the support housing.
If I remember right you need to take out the headlights, then remove the 6 bolts holding the 2 bearings on each side of the bucket and then remove bucket and bearings together.
I did mine different. I loosened the two collars (w/the allen screws) that are on the pivots, then slid the Headlamp assy all the way to one side to remove from one pivot, then eased it out of the other pivot. It removed from the top of the surround.

That will remove the headlight door. The support will still there.

I question if the entire thing will come out as an assembly, but I'm not sure why you would want to pull it as an assembly being that it is so easy to remove the door.
Most of the supports that are original are usually cracked or eroded at the mounts.
Well, I don't really know the specific 'fault'. A friend has a '75 C3 which he thinks is "broken". His description didn't sound like a vacuum-type issue, so I'm assuming that the problem is mechanical. I volunteered to help him dig into it, so I'm just trying to get a "head's up" on how to go about the removal...if it is required.
