Default weather-stripping

I am repainting my 82 vette and I want to redo the weather stripping. Is there anything I should be looking for? I think I was told Vinyl weatherstripping is best? I want to replace all of it basically except the rear window, I am going to repaint the trip but im not interesting in taking out the window.

I just replaced the door weather stripping on my 79 after I got it painted. I removed it before paint (pain in the back side). Installation was very easy. I got mine from Willcox. It was hard to close the doors for a few days but I left the doors closed as much as possible and it is very good now.

Used weather stripping adhesive, put it on the door and on the gasket, let it sit for a couple of minutes and then put the gasket on the door. The adhesive is black and really messy. Wear gloves, the stuff is still on my hands.

Mask the area outside where sealant is supposed to go to eliminate smearing that stuff on your new paint. Then, when done, you can just pull the tape and be done with it. Also, 'dry-fit' each piece of weatherstrip and place tape or chalk marks on them to identify centers of turns, etc. (registration marks) so that you will know where to stick it down. That stuff will stretch easily and you can get it out of position and 'off track' if not careful. Mark first, so that you don't have to screw around with it after the fact.

Make sure your new weatherstrippng is latex. The factory used latex; it seals wind and rain better than the harder stuff.

3M weatherstrip cement and weatherstrip cement remover are good stuff.

Here's a couple of pics of when the doors on my 81 was done. We used tape to help hold it in place.

original weatherstrips have a skin on them where applicable like the originals. The original skin was not vinyl.

Be sure to wipe the new weather stripping off with lacquer thinner to remove the release agent. Pour the glue onto a paper plate. Use an acid brush to apply a thin coat of glue onto both the door and weather stripping. Wait a minute or two then press together. Do a section at a time. It will be on there for good.

Marty.

Default blow out tabs

Hi guys:

I had posted this in another thread, but am also trying here also, since this one is more current.

Anybody have any tricks to repair/replace the upper blowout tabs?

I've got them off, just need to recoat and figure out how to reinstall; off-the-shelf rivets just seem too big, but I want to check before I try and tear anything up.

Thanks

Mark
