Default Front Clip Adhesive

Just about to put an order in for the adhesive for my front clip change:

Should I get two quarts or a gallon?

thanks

8115 Panel Bond Adhesive is what we used on my 81, one of these did the job. We used a one foot piece of tygon tubing hooked on the spout to back-fill after the clip was installed.

Who are you ordering from? Vendors can usually speculate on how much you will typically need.

FWIW: having too much is better than not having enough.

1 tube is cutting it very close, order 2,
those dispense guns are not cheap either.
look for a generic instead of the 3m gun.

When we do panel bonding only we use the Original style glue.. dries quick and you are ready to work.

But when we do the front ends we use Sims 39747 panel adhesive only.

The stuff dries to almost exactly the original color but the bonus for doing a front end is that the cure time of the epoxy is way longer than that of the standard glue. This gives you more time to work with the front end aligning it in the proper place. Using the standard glue the dry time is way to fast and if you make a mistake it is very hard to correct.

I'm sure the 3m stuff above is about the same as what we use and both do require a special application gun. But you really can not beat it when working with a complete front end.

IMHO.

Now that is a not easy.. The issue is there are three different guns... One that shoots Sims, one for 3M and one that will shoot both...

I'd look on the flea bay and see if you can find a deal on one or the other, then order the glue to match it... You can usually find the glue online cheaper than you can find it in your local stores if you are not in a hurry.

Or use Marine-Tex instead. comes in two cans (one for the activator). Mix it on a mixing board, no gun needed.

We used it to do all the panels including a front top surround and a complete rear body (deck, quarters, taillight panel) on my '71. Works great.
