I have a 76 stingray L82 with a 350. anyway the battery is behind the seat and goes down to the frame I need to replace and it is alot heavier than the ones I find at auto stores I beleive its a -0 do I need one that big? thanks
On the Willcox site, they list the set of cables for your 76 for $50 and they don't say what gauge. The 80-82 uses 0 gauge. Zip Corvette sells the negative cable for 25 bucks and it is listed for 76-82 but does not give the gauge size. Not sure.
I just paid $29 for the ground cable from starter support bracket to chassis...so they are pricey and specialized. Mine was frayed and the rubber had baked from what appeared to be excessive heat. It was only a foot long and I got from The Last Detail.
The cable on the '71 is 4 awg. Later years may have gone to larger size; check the GM wiring diagram to determine size. Go to Lowe's and buy the length of 4 awg (or whatever is required for your car) and an appropriate lug to solder on the end. Take them home and solder with a propane torch. If you really want to pay someone else to do that, just buy one from one of the CF vendors.
any quality auto parts store will probably have them in stock as a copper cable in either 4 or 2 gauge wire with the appropriate ends....no need to go to the net or make one.......Belding, Niehoff, Standard, are all quality ignition parts....bolt right in....
AutoZone and Target probably have 'one' for $8...but it's likely made of aluminum wire and won't handle nearly as much current or last as long. You get what you pay for....

it cranks over my big block real well, even when hot...
I also found that my local parts store does not carry the same gauge as what I have on my 73. I did not think about going to Home Depot to look for that cable gauge. Thats a good idea I will have to look into.
