There is no exhaust in the car, so I have plenty of room, do they slide in from the top or bottom? The car has power steering and are the common low dollar headers, 2 5/8 tube.
I think it depends on the year and other equipment such as A/C. On mine, the passenger side went in easily from the bottom and the driver's side from the top. The driver's side was much more difficult because of the steering gear. I would think you'd have to do that side from the top on a 4 speed car.
In either case, make sure that you remove your spark plugs before you start. Otherwise, have replacements ready.

thanks, Tim
2 5/8 tubes sound like a little large for most street driven smallblocks..
I was getting a little spooked- My BB only has 2-1/8 tubes..
I put mine on from the bottom. There was so much room I felt like I could have done it from across the street- literally. I had the car on a Kwik-Lift and worked them in from the bottom. The right side went in no problem, and had to fish the left one in around the steering box. Never even raised it up on the lift.
My dad is just getting the engine back together in his big block Camaro and I have been staring at these elephant trunks all week, probably threw my thinking off on the tube size haha
easier to put in before or after the cross pedal and clutch linkage or is this a non factor? I need to put that in tonight as well, I already have the rod in from the pedal assembly into the engine compartment

Put the headers in before the Z-bar is much easier. Both from below
That looks like a power steering box all right, but not one for a Corvette. I have a Borgeson box and it fits with Hooker Super Comp headers, BUT it's a small block.
Hotrod427 on this forum, wrote an article for Corvette Enthusiast that detailed installing the Borgeson box in a big block Corvette with headers, http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c1-a...nthusiast.html so with a box made for your Corvette, you shouldn't have to cut the headers.
That cut you have drawn on your header looks nasty!
haha that picture is of my Dads Camaro, it is all set up now, we fabbed up header tubes for it....thanks though! That was not the problem i had tonight, the problem tonight was with the Corvette
