I must be putting the stereo Amp in the wrong place. The heat sink top hits the bird cage and the bottom hits the a/c ducting. I guess is doesn't go where I have pictured. It shows it there in the AIM - but not even close to a fit.
A mono AMP would probably fit there - but not the bigger one with two transistors.
Screw holes (already there) appear to be correct for this amp.
Anyone have a two transistor AMP (convector) installed (pics)?
The convector for my '71 is mounted 90* different than yours. The tops of the transistors face the passenger compartment and the mounting flanges screw into that upper metal surround rather than underneath it. I can't say if that is the way it came from the factory...but it doesn't interfere with any other components there.
Your unit looks the same as my 73 for stereo set up, but I think you have to move it to the left, closer to the center, like in Tom's pic from the AIM.
Here are some pics of the Heat Sink and the Multiplexer from my '73. Very different than those that you show.
HEAT SINK
MULTIPLEX ASSEMBLY
I have no idea what that is you have in yours.
Tom, is that not for a mono radio, that you are showing in your pics, the one in udornf4, looks like one for a stereo set up, it appears to look the same as mine. I will post a few pics, later.
Thanks, Guys. What I think I have is a '74 Stereo - trying to fit it in a '73. It should fit - but doesn't. I had to "bubba" it a bit (cut off a few heat sink fins). Fits now...
Still, I would like to see a close up of a '74 Stereo Amp (on a car with A/C). I just don't see how it would ever get installed there with the ducting, etc..
If you look at the mounting brackets closely, you will notice that one of them can be removed and replaced in a different orientation. I believe one of those mounting positions is used for non-A/C cars and the other for A/C cars. (I don't know that for a fact, but only one way will work for my '71 A/C car.)

Just to add to that, the pics I show have the brackets set for an A/C car.
Here are the pics of the convector for the stereo radio, that is in my 73.
Interesting, my pics are for a 73 stereo. Came out of my 73 vert when I installed a Kenwood. It ws an early 73, second month of production. Is your a late production maybe?
