Default Help a newbie out !!! (please)

I joined this forum some time ago because I thought it would assist me while I'm searching for a c3 to buy (my first classic car).

I may be going to look at a '68 Roadster with a 327/350 this weekend and I'd love some input from all you experts out there.

The ad was pretty well written so I only had a few questions for the seller (wipers/lights, fiber optics, frame condition). What else should I look for when I take a look at this car??? Any problems with this year I should keep an eye out for? I'm planning on bringing my ramps to take a look underneath.

The seller says that the numbers match. I know where the number is on the engine and I have charts with the other numbers to look for BUT how do I know that the car was born with that particular engine or that the engine is a real 327? I'm not concerned with the trans or rearend.

One more thing, can anyone suggest someone to transport the car to my house? I need someone who works in the NJ, NY, CT and PA area.

I know, it's a lot to cover in a thread. I will appreciate any comments!

JP

Frame and birdcage, is a #1 priority. You did not say if it was auto or stick. The 327/350 suffix stamp should read either HP or HT, for that year. Keep in mined that a 68 has alot of 1 year option parts and makes it a little harder to find replacement parts.

Hi jp,
I believe it would be a VERY good idea to have someone who's VERY knowledgeable about 68-69 cars take a look at the car with you.
He will be able to see MANY things very quickly, and know just what to look for and where to look.
I'd contact a local Corvette club for some possible names or pay someone to examine the car with you. There are people in the N.J. area that do that.
Good Luck!
Regards,
Alan

Here's someone (NJ NCRS judge) who can inspect the car (for a fee) and give you a report on it.

I've used Cooley Auto Transport many times (in NJ) and have been very happy with their service.
