So I got a really nice 1979 that had been sitting for... 18-20 years. Replaced the breaks made the engine run well again, trans is good and have slowly started to put it back to the way it looked 32 year ago. I do not plan on taking it anywhere and leaving it, parking lot, fair, whatever. MY insurance agent quoted me almost $800.00 for 6 months and 100 less for theft. and $450 for liability.
just wondering what anyone's thoughts are on this and if you tryed to make a claim on a 30-40 year old car and how much of a issue insurance co. cause.
I have allstate and have just started the haggling today...first offer was 7900 before they received and documentation which will be sent soon. Mine was a very good condition partly restored daily driver...but if you are going to make the car show quality and barely drive it...I would get collectors insurance...you would have to ask others which companies to look into

I am in Detroit and have state farm.
Thanks.
there are classic/antique insurance companies that are much cheaper tahn daily driver insurance companies....shop around,,,
as Dose11 stated you have to go to specialty collectors insurance, a fraction of what you are being quoted, I pay $630 per year for 2 cars, 69 vette, 71 gto.

ill definately look into the 2 co. thanks. and it probably will not be a show car... well not unlile the cash flow gets bigger, closer to a daily driver. i have a 30 min drive to work and a 350 V8 doesnt do as well in the gas dept. as my daily driver.

There are going to be restrictions like you can't drive it to work or to run an errand but can use it for pleasure. You can get a policy through Classic Collectors with a drive to work endorsement that will let you drive up to 30 times during the year and it is a little less stringent than the other two and still very cheap. These policies are not necessarily only for show cars they are just not "daily driver" policies. http://www.classiccollectors.com/
Kevin,
I have a 78 Anniversary that I bought 5 months ago. I put classic tags on it and had it insured for $16,000. I have State Farm also and have full coverage including $100 deductible...my premium is $110.00 per year. I did have to send photos before they would insure it for that much.
Collectors insurance is really the best way. You just tell them a value, and they charge you a premium based on that amount. Have Grundy on one of my cars, and while never having to make a claim, haven't heard of any complaints. Think about it, how many of these cars actually get in wrecks. I'm paying $150 a year for $15,000 coverage. If the car get's trashed, whats a $15K payout in the scheme of things.
