Right now I have long tube headers + 2.5 inch pipes with flowmaster 80 series mufflers.
They sound REALLY good, but have few ground clearance issues with I will have to fix (muffler shop quoted me $150)
Anyway...I always liked the looks of side exhaust and now my friend wants to sell me his almost brand new hooker setup for $600.
Now for the question...How much louder the side exhaust will be vs. true duals? and how much power will I loose?

Side pipes could decrease torque. Also, I love side pipes but have little kids and just don't want to risk the chance of them getting burned, so I went true duals. Plus, with mufflers it will be more quiet.
They are some Hooker long tubes + 2.5 inch tubes all the way to the flowmaster mufflers. Fitment is good, but I will have to fabricate some hangers in the middle section because pipes hand too low.
I really love the sound, because its not too loud but very deep.
On the other hand...
I LOVE how the side exhaust looks, I am just afraid that it might be too loud.

What headers do you currently have and do you like them?
Are you switching purely for cosmetic preferences?

There's all kinds of header/sidepipe muffler inserts available. From power-robbing quiet to almost open exhaust.
Here's what came in my Doug's:
They get wrapped with fiberglas insulation like found at Home Depot. A lot wrapped tight makes it quiet...a little wrapped loose and you'll go deaf in your left ear! Take your pick.
Be aware that the side pipes also come with ground clearance issues.
clearance is always an issue with side pipes. if you like the side pipe sound, i have true duals on my 78 only there are no mufflers or resonators, just the same baffles that make up the side pipes. midamerica motor parts has them (as do probably other parts suppliers). they look like stock pipes from the rear with the tips that turn down just like those that exit the systems with mufflers, but they sound fantastic. i have mine connected to ceramic coated hooker headers (into 2 1/2 inch connectors). remember if you change to side pipes you need side exiting headers also
I will give you an opinion from someone who is not a fan of sidepipes. There are great flowing under car exhaust and then there are crappy ones. Same goes for sidepipes, although most of the ones I have seen flow terrible and would rob some HP. If your combo does make a true 380 to 400 RWHp which is pretty high for a 350 you had better have some good flowing exhaust to go with it. Also get ready for burnt legs, you will burn your legs at some point.
