it is not really a mid-life crisis, it is something I always wanted, I always had interest in cars ( not today's cars, I don't know the difference between a toyota and a chevy today). and when I turned 40, I finally had enough money that I could buy one without breaking the bank. So many of you kids buy one at age 25 that you spend all your savings and have no money left over. i waited until I was 40 so that I could buy one and still support my family and still save for retirement.
to those that **** away money they cannot afford, that is a mid life crisis.
I think many NON car folks just dont understand. Perhaps their zest for living lies elsewhere, I dont know. perhaps a good come back is just that..its a corvette, you wouldnt understand. Or like someone else said..beats a mini van. I am now almost 61. A friend of mine I flew with in Vietnam (we were door gunners) has a tape of us talking late one night, on guard duty, in a guard tower. That was in 71...40 years ago. I said on the tape..one day I am gonna get me a vet.
Another thread on here said they liked using the term Mid-Life Celebration! I AGREE! I tell people it's a celebration because all the kids are off the payroll now, so I'm celebrating that I can finally afford some of the things my wife and I have sacrificed for them for years. Not looking for sympathy, it was our choice, just like it is now our choice to have some fun.

I got mine when I was 31 (I'm 34 now). I'm going to earn this thing, putting it together basically alone. If anyone asks me about the midlife crisis down the road, I'll go dig up the picture of me standing in the engine bay.
Those people are not car people, they are not going to get it.
Alternatively, you could respond, "no but my ***** is really small, here take a look"
Blu72...Is that you, and your car, next to my GS? I think I met you a few months ago, at automotorplex. Going to Mysic Lake Corvette show this weekend?

yes! - it was nice to meet you. I hope to make it to Mystic Lake this weekend to meet some other mid-life crisis sufferers

Of course you are right! People make choices. Responsible adults make choices with the knowledge that they will have to live with the consequences, both good and bad. There is everything right with that, the alternative is the "octo-mom".
As we pulled into our driveway with the vette our neighbors came over to see. My husband said "welcome to Kim's mid-life crisis!" lol At 31 I hope this isn't mid-life
My husband has heard it a few times in the last week. I don't mind. It screams of jealously to me.

Great! Maybe I'll bump into ya. You should sell me that '72!
After I bought my 80 4-speed, an older neighbor came stomping down my driveway and ask me WHY DID YOU BUY THAT LOUD S.O.B. FOR??? YOU'RE TOO DAMN OLD!!!! I'm 58.
Ever notice that the concept of a "mid life crisis" seems to be nonexistent to those that find ways to enjoy themselves and buy the things that they enjoy? As proof, nobody here seems to think that such a crisis exists.
Rather, the people living a contained and mundane life such as the proverbial "married with children" set view these things as a crisis as it jeapordizes the continuing existance of that mundane lifestyle.
In short, the crisis comes when they realize that THEY are the ones that are in crisis, not the grinning vette owner they are mocking.
After the mid-life whatever then you can always go to the retirement era diesel pusher motorhome with the bumper sticker that reads "We're spending our kids' inheritance." Success to me will be checking out of this world without a penny to my name. If you raised your kids right, they can and should make it on their own.
I don't remember a mid-life crisis when I bought my first Corvette many moons ago. But I may be having a senior moment. D*** where are my keys...they were beside the geritol...I think...but the geritol is gone too. I need a nappy.
For me, the comments I get are the 20, 30 and even 40 something cutie
pies saying: "Wow, nice car or "Cool car" or a "thumbs up" at a stop sign.
The most derogatory comments I get which, happens at car shows,
is when I grow my beard. Clean shaven, I've been told I look 20 years
younger which would make me 30 (I'll be 50 in August) however with a
beard, it comes in mostly gray but not old enough for those who ask:
"So, are you the original owner?". Now that hits me in the gut.

Yeah, not many paper routes paid enough to afford a brand new Corvette at 9 years of age!
I must've had a mid-life crisis in 1979, at 19 yrs old, when I bought my first Vette, a '72 coupe, and then my 2nd and current Vette, a '71 vert, I got in 1984 at the old age of 24, and career military.
Just say: "says the person who cannot afford a Corvette..."
btw, I bought my first vette when I was 26 (it was a '92 and bought it slightly used in '93), so I've heard all the Corvette jokes. but your right, its stems from jealousy...
