I just ordered a installation DVD from al knock. They were on sale for $40. That's almost half price of the normal fee. Just wanted too pass it on.

Hope it plays better than the one I purchased from them.
Yep, the DVD I purchased and it had some outages.
After watching the DVD, I was tempted to replace the top myself. However, at the June 2010 Pomona Swap Meet, Al Knoch was a visiting vendor and I was able to get a reservation for him and his merry men to replace by convertible top. After watching his guy replace the top, I was glad I didn't try myself. Even though Al's guy had probably done a gazallion tops, it was not a fast process and he still fussed with a lot of attention to detail.
I also had employee recover my 68 and 70 seats in leather. To do the seat cushions takes a lot of forearm strength. You can watch these videos he also sells to see. I'm just not that strong or experienced.
I also had Al make seat back head rests for my 68. These are very rare items. (Opps detail here..I don't know if 68's came with back head rests. They came on 69's I know. I bought 69 headrest seat backs for my 68. I then bought some head rests on ebay. They were for a 69 and were tobacco colored. Al stripped off the external covering and inside foam, rechromed plated the "stalks" and then remanufactured them with new foam and medium bright blue vinyl. Al has the molds and equipment to make them. $400 for the headrests. Now maybe if someone rear ends me in my 68. I may not perhaps get my head ripped off.

No advertising here really. Just a day in the life of restoring a 68 Convertible, or should I say days, weeks, months, years. Just to get the headrests on my 68, I first had to buy a 69 seat backs on ebay (actually I had to buy the entire seats just to get the backs) . Then I had to buy the shoulder belt clips that hold the belts against the seat back. Of course I also had to buy the head rests. The little belt clips cost $200. The head rests were the wrong color and were cracked with age. As far as I know, Knoch is the only one with the equipment to re-manufacture these items in matching colors. Furthermore, I don't know of any vendor on CorvetteForum that has had this much experience replacing the tops. There are vendors here that sell them. The only forum vendor that I know of that actually replaces them is J and D Corvette of Bellflower Ca. They are forum sponsors. I was tentatively going to have them do mine. I've had them do work for me (and my friends) and I'd certainly recommend them. I'm just relating my experiences to help other readers who might be wanting to do the same, I had no intent to provide free advertising.

I just called them and ordered it. I goggled Al knock Interiors for the number. Its my first dealings with this vendor. I just know I see a lot of members looking for the video to buy used. Heres a chance to get a new one for what I have seen used ones go for.
Now for those that got a poor quality DVD, did you try returning it and if so were they good about making good on a new one. I sure hope the quality is good, I hope to do mine on my own! I have heard Al Knock has great instructions on how to do it and make all adjustments once its on. I bought his stayfast top so I would like to do a very good job!

everything I buy comes with instructions, for free. Including instructional dvd's for welders and plasma cutters. Just confused why you would have to pay for an installation dvd after forking out the money for the top?
ive been wanting to put a new top on my car fr some time, but theres no way in hell ill ever pay 80 dollars for an instructional dvd, or even 40. 20 and ill think about it, 10 and ill buy it.

It isn't a tool. Ever had them give you a DVD or instructions sheet when you buy tires or an engine?
I think I'll pay someone to do mine but if I was a glutton for punishment and wanted to do it myself, I'd pay that for a video to learn to do it the right way instead of ruining a new top.

Some time ago on the forum, there was a posting by someone who bought the video and then replaced his top himself. He did a pretty good job and was happy with the results.
If you've never replaced a top before, I'd say spending the money for the dvd would be a good investment. The labor to replace a top is substantial, so by avoiding the labor charge you should be able to afford the dvd. He also makes a dvd on how to replace your seat covers. If you buy new foam for your seat cushions, you will swear it's too big to all the covers to fit. The video will demonstrate that the foam is not too big..in fact its the correct size. Hint: think massive forearm and finger muscles. I watched the guy I saw in the video, do my 68 and 70 seat covers. A new top, leather seats for the 68 and 70, and remanufactured head rests for the 68.....a little less than $5000.

Again, instructions come with things to show how to put them together, not ruin them, operate them and work on them, for free. The point was, why you would have to pay extra for a dvd? After paying big bucks for the top?
