Could use a little input on a rear suspension problem. The rear of the car has always sat higher than I would like and for whatever reason the right rear sat an inch high than the left. 28.5 on the left, 29.5 on the right. It has the stock 6 inch bolts and since I would like to lower and equal the two sides I would install 8 inch bolts to give me more adjustment. Before I started I noted the nuts on both bolts were equal with about an 1 inch of thread showing. I changed out the bolt on the right "high" side first and for starters left about an inch of thread showing on the new 8 inch bolt. Lowered the car, and to my amazement nothing changed. The height measurements were the same. I drove the car around, jumped up and down on it and nothing, still measured the same. It's got me baffled. Any thoughts or ideas would be appreciated.
I would put the other 8" bolt in the other side with the same thread showing then drive, jump whatever and see where you are at. It should have dropped some on the side with the 8" bolt. Watch your sidewalls with the taller bolts if you have stock 15" wheels
Put the other eight inch bolt on the left side and no matter what I do the right rear will not drop. Thought I will beat it at it's own game so I raised the left side hoping to match the right and leave it at that. Cranked the nut up a good inch or better and the right side seemed to raise more than the left. Also the right front got lower, which I guess makes sense. Any one have any thoughts on this? I did replace the front spring about a month ago so the front is good to go. Im thinking maybe bad rear spring? Not sure what my next step should be.
With the bolt off make sure the trailing arm swings freely through it's full travel arc. Shocks have been known to seize up, could have something on the inboard end that jamming the trailing arm. I really can't see how it could be spring, but you could take it out and turn it around so that what is currently the right side becomes the left side and see if the problem changes side.
