I am fairly new to the Corvettes, but have been long into Hot Rods. Is there a monthly magazine, or any publication similar to Rod and Custom, Rodder's Journal, or the old Hot Rod Mechanix or the like that a guy should be subscribing to?
I think Vette Magazine is still in publicaton. They recently sent me a resubscribe letter. Unless their content has improved since I let my subscription lapse (doubtful), you will find C5 and C6 bling articles and not much on C3s.
Hi 6,
I've given up on all the mass media magazines except RODDERS JOURNAL. There never was any Corvette magazine that was even close to RJ.
If you're interested in stock/original cars I think the best choice is the NCRS publication THE CORVETTE RESTORER.
Regards,
Alan
I used to really enjoy buying and reading Corvette Magazines. I would buy or subcribe to Vette, Corvette Fever, Keeping Track of VettesVette Vues and read them from cover to cover. This was in the mid '80s to late 90s. I still like going back and re-reading these old issues. Most are still published but they just aren't the same
If you're a hot rod guy and NOT looking for a Corvette magazine try Poppular Hot Rodding.
The magazine is geared more toward the pro-touring crowd than anything else. They also keep you up on what the pro builders are doing. The internet as really taken the punch out of the monthly publications. As far as Corvette magazines go for modified stuff there is only Vette Magazine and Corvette Magazine left. Go to a big book store like Barnes and Noble and check out the magazines. See what you like and then decide if you want to subscribe.
The magazines for Corvettes are pretty limited these days. Corvette Fever which was one of my favorites, was bought-out by Vette magazine last year. Corvette Enthusiest was another of my favorite magazines and that was a victim of the economic crunch as well. So now it's pretty much down to Vette and Corvette Magazine. Corvette Magazine is more higher end but I have traditionally liked it's non-apologetice writing style and wonderful production quality. Vette is good too. Vette Vues is another bird altogether, but I liken it to magazines of yesteryear, which is a good thing. I kinda like it's grass-roots style. That's pretty much what ya got left. Like they said before, go to the store and see what one trips your trigger the most, or just get both like me and not have to worry.
I subscribed to Vette Fever for a long time. It's been now re-labeled as Vette Magazine. I still get it and enjoy the articles and also it's a way to keep up with technical upgrades for C3s. I also get the NCRS Restorer and Driveline magazines. I also get the Corvette Museum magazine from Bowling Green Kentucky.
I also enjoy reading Hot Rod. For instance, Hot Rod had a three month long series of articles about how to build up Chevy BB engines and all the options. This was a great series and I saved the articles. Also, Hot Rod highlights new technical improvements for people restoring cars to current technologies. For example, when Holley began selling all aluminum bodies for their traditional carbs, the first of the ads were in Hot Rod.

PS I'm a avid subscriber of magazines and newspapers. I addition to the above: Popular Science, Popular Mechanics, National Geographic, Aviation Week, Wall Street Journal, Barrons, the local newspaper. People talk about how the internet will drive hard copy newspapers into oblivion. Not with me and my rabbit. Bunny gets to read the Wall Street Journal, Barrons, and the local newspaper in her litter box.
