Hazard or not
I had originally planned on having a local classic car shop straighten out my trans crossmember before the Corvette show tomorrow but they couldn't get it done.
My problem is with the crossmember crunched up and out of position, it has always made my newly installed exhaust on the passenger side sit about 1/16" away from the fiberglass if not actually touching it at times. My big fear is the exhaust getting hot enough to melt or catch fire the fiberglass. The show is only about 6 miles away so it won't take me long to get there.
My temp solution for tomorrow is to use a flame protector I bought from Home Depot. It's designed for when using a torch and it says its "Effective up to 2500 degrees Fahrenheit". Here's a picture of my temp patch:
Do I leave it on there or go without and pray that 1/16" is enough and that the 6 miles isn't far enough to even get the exhaust pipe at that spot hot enough to worry?

I took my MAPP gas torch to it for about 5 seconds and it smoked really good on the corner.
How hot does an exhaust get as I have no idea. If it's up to 500 and the flame protector is good to 2500, I would think it would handle a constant heat source. The package says it's a "heat shield made of the latest flame-resistant, carbon based woven material" and that it's non-asbestos.
Not sure yet if I'm going to leave it on or not.

You should be fine.

My sidepipes come out behind the front wheel and touch the fiberglass with the collector,
It is very hot there (spit sizzles) but the fiberglass hasn't been affected at all.
I've been driving it this way for years without problems.
You should be more than fine, especially with the heat barrier.
