Whats a 1968 red convertible go for nowadays?

All I know is its a 4-speed. Lets assume its a solid, plain base car with good paint and clean. Whats it worth?

Somewhere between $12,000 and $26,000, depending on mileage, condition, options and what is meant by "solid", "good paint" or "clean."

You need A LOT more info to get market value on something like that. There are lots of informed forum members who will offer opinions based on pictures but what about the details? Matching numbers, original color and trim? That kind of stuff. It does look nice in the pictures though but that can be deceiving.

I realize all of that but at this point I simply don't have any more info. That's why I said in my original post "Lets assume its a plain base car." Plain meaning no special options, I only found out about this car a few days ago and hope to learn more tomorrow.

I'm more interested in the low end drivers market price range because I'm thinking it's possible I may be able to swing a really good deal on this car.

Thanks for the replies.

Obviously without enough information, a better range on a clean numbers matching correct-color '68 convertible with good paint would be closer to $17.5k-$22.5.

Lower dollars would indicate problems as it dips into coupe money. Higher would be higher-end paint, options, docs, detail...

If marketed right, over $30,000, if in excellent condition. Even in today's ecomomy nice cars sell for high prices.

Looks nice. Do you know the skinny on the position of the driver's side mirror?
Replacement grilles?

Ok, I went and looked at the car. I don't have a ton of C3 knowledge so anything you see out of place please mention it. If anybody wants to give me a quick history of 68's I won't get mad. I have a 65 currently.

It looks like a numbers matching car, early car (02118) the list that was in the car said it came with air, but I talked to what I think was the second owner and he claimed it never had air. It's going to be auctioned tomorrow.

I thought L-79s came with aluminum intake? Also does it have power brakes, I don't see the booster?

Also is there a seam behind the rear wheels that runs upward toward the back of the car?

You, and don't take this the wrong way, are 'ripe for the picking' in the eyes of sellers by thinking with your lower instead of upper brain. The phony window sticker is laughable by representing options the car clearly doesn't have. Read up on 'buying my first Corvette' or similar posts here.

Find a knowledgeable inspector and pay him to go over the car with a fine tooth comb and explain to you why 'numbers matching' is meaningless.

No offense taken, but your assuming WAY too much about what I'm thinking of paying for this car!

I started the thread to find the perceived value from forum members, that in turn wanted to know things like options, thus the window sticker. I've posted a few pics to get other thoughts and possibly verify said options.

1968 is really not the year I'm looking for, but if I can pick up a good deal and it's possible at auctions like this, although not likely.

It might be an early 68 and that would explain the mirror but if it is an eary 68 your right about the grilles as they are late 68-69.

Then go in with the assumption it's not the original engine, has the wrong colour paint, wrong year hardtop, replaced front and rear clips from a severe accident and rotted frame and bird cage.

Do you still want the car even if it's 'a bargain'

I don't see anything from the pics provided to prove that all of the above is not possible.

Yeah. First thing I noticed was the fake window sticker. What else is faked? Reminds me of a cute, sexy, coke bottled shaped, 44 year-old woman with implants. Then again, that might not be too bad!

Also, what power brakes? You definitely would have to steal this car to justify the risk.

Ok, go with this. It's a NOM, many incorrect parts, but looks cosmetically reasonably correct, runs, minimal rust, and driver paint. Whats it worth? I'm just trying to find a realistic floor.

I thought this guess was close, for a nice numbers matching car. But I think everyones problem is the sellers deception at the get go.
