Default Gas tank leaking

Went into my garage and smelled gas. Looked under my '73 vette and gas was pooling under the tank. Took the spare tire cover off and found that the previous owner did a "patch job". Now to go out and find another gas tank and will put in new straps, sender and pickup. New everything so I don't have to do it again. Not a matching # car but I saw on Ebay to get a tank for $149.00 and sender for about $50.00. Anmybody have any luck with these cheaper prices.
I don't need to read..... you get what you pay for. Just good opinions. Thanks

You might want to skip replacing the straps. When I had the tank out of my 77 I reused the straps because they were formed perfectly to fit tightly around the tank. New straps can be difficult to fit. Also, replace the sock on your pickup in the tank.

I got a gastank from a generic vendor (not ebay). Didn't have the "logo" but otherwise I think it was identical to the gastanks from specialty/corvette vendors. It was also made in Canada, and it was inexpensive. I bought new straps and didn't use them. Old ones were fine, shaped right like BKboiler says, and the new ones I swear were too short anyway.

Only problem we had when replacing the one on the 71 was getting the sending unit just right. Forgot all about it and just put the new one in and bolted it up. If you got the time take your old sending unit out and try to bend the new one in the same angle. Ours now shows empty when about 1/2 full a real PIA.

Good luck wro87

I bought a complete package from one of the CF supporting vendors. I was very pleased with everything. I had nothing to start with and needed everything. Getting the new straps to conform were the biggest challenge. I try to stick with vendors here because the will take car of any issues.
