Default Advice on replacing power window components

Hello Everyone,

My driver's side window recently stopped working. The passenger side still works but is slow. I replaced the switches in April so I think they are good, but will check them. The relay is new too.

I have been planning to replace the motors on both sides as well as the outer window seals. I will check the regulator springs too.

I greased the tracks a few months ago and the windows did raise/lower ok before.

My question: What other things should I fix while I have the door opened up? rollers, etc?

Let me know, I want to place one order for everything before the Wilcox sale ends.

117k miles on '76 L-48.

Thanks, John

Before you go replacing everything, run a separate solid wire ground line for that window motor to see if it runs better. Very common for the ground connection to get corroded and not pass current well.

Your opening up a can of worms. When you take out the regular to change the motors you will throw off the alignment of the glass. Its real tough to get it right again.

I strongly suggest you spray pain the position of every bolt you have to loosen so you can set the various tracks in the right place.

If your glass goes up and seals right I wouldn't replace anything more then the motors and regulator springs. Its very likely the slow window is soley because of the regulator spring. Check and see if its there. They don't weaken they only break. If its broken it will be at the bottom of the door.

Try the ground trick too. Take off the panel. Run a ground from the negative on the battery and touch the motor and see if it gets better. The motor gtounds through the regulator to the door frame normally.

Thanks for the advice. I will try the ground trick and then go from there. Currently the drivers side window does nothing. The motor does not even run.

Test driver's PW switch. No sense replacing a motor if all you need is a switch.
