I am trying to decide what year should I buu a 1971 corvett or 1976, whcih is better year. I have been doing my research but each has its own advantage.
The great thing about these C3's from 68-82 is the variety you have to select from. What is your budget? What do you like about the 71 and what do you like about the 76? The most obvious differences are the bumpers and the horsepower.
I had a 73 and got sick and tired of explaining why the chrome bumpers on the back and rubber nose on the front!
If you like 71 you might as well throw in 72 and 70, they also have the removable back window.
I like rubber bumper cars because they have a cowl hood.
I like the 76 because they have the "Vega" steering wheel!!!!!
c'mon think spirit of 76',76 trombones on the avenue,1776,1,776 more dollars in your pocket. (there is a large selection with replaced steering wheels).what are you waiting for?
Hi e15,
Personally it's not even close, I'd choose the 71.
In your post you mention that "each has it's own 'advantage".
I'm not sure what advantage a 76 has over a 71.
Perhaps only that with cars of very equal condition, the 76 will be less costly.
Regards,
Alan
Another thing is if you buy a 71 and you add that "I love beer" steering wheel wrap you will devalue the price like $10000.
On the other hand on the 76 if you ad a " rebel flag back window cover and a windshield banner that says " like a rock chevy racing" you ad $2500 at least to the value of the vette.
So if you plan on even waxing the 71 with any wax under a $100 an ounce you headed in a downward spiral on price.
Back to what's your budget?
Then what's your skill level?
Do you want something that is near perfect or do you want to "tinker"?
Why '71 vs '76? You could expand that to '70-'72 vs '75-'77. More choises maybe better condition cars in the same price range. You will get more car for the money in the '75-'77 range that the '70-'72 range. I would think you could get a near "perfect" (that word has different meaning to different people) '75-'77 Corvette than a '70-'72 Corvette in the 15K range. Then again in the current market who knows? Good luck in your search.
Any of the vetts with the chrome bumpers are the ones to get if you want to spend more money and I would think they would sell faster....however you can get a nice 75 or 76 for less money and still have a very nice car. I have a 76.
