NEVER shoot oil into that clock mechanism. It will gum-up the works faster than Donald Trump can fluff his hair.
The process to 'adjust' the clock is to set the correct time (forget AM & PM...the clock doesn't care) on it and note the time of day that you made the adjustment. Approximately 24 hours later [give or take an hour or so], adjust it to the correct time again. Continue until the clock is reading accurately.
(The adjustment mechanism applies your change with the assumption of a 1 day rate change built into the mechanism. So, if you only adjusted the clock to the correct time every three days, you would cause it to over-correct twice the real error. If that confuses you, just make the adjustment at about the same time each day until it runs right.)

Wow....it never ceases to amaze me the info that is available on this site!! I did the interior of my 78 last week and when I removed the clock it was not working. But when I put it back in it was working, but very fast. One of the copper bands at the electrical dash plug was bent. I assume that is why it is now working after I straightened it out.
