Default 81 power windows quit

Hi All!

Today I went to the store, and before I hopped out of the car, I put the windows up. When I came back out, I fired the 81 up and went to put the windows back down. Neither one budged. No noises, nothing.

Consulting my manual and doing a search here led me to replace the circuit breaker in the lower right of the panel, labeled "power accessories". No joy.

Then, I found this, as part of an old thread:

If you look on page 8A-76 for the power seat you will see CB 76, which is the same as the power windows. Also look on page 8C-25 on the fuse panel, item C is the wire for the windows going to that CB 76. When I disconnected my power seat and CB reset, my windows are now working; the short is in the electric seat motor, or wiring.

Hope this helps.

Yes that helps and you are 100% correct. It looks like they have it correct in the diagrams (POWER WINDOW CIRCUIT BREAKER)but wrong in the pic in Fig.8A-74. I will correct my manual so as not to give out wrong info.I checked 82 and its OK.

Bottom part is a response from Roger. Checking my manual, I see that everything they comment on is there.

So, it appears as though I've replaced the wrong CB. Additionally, the one I DID replace is shown in the manual as 35 amps. What was in there was 30 amps, and NAPA only had the 30 amp replacement. Don't have access to 35 amp CBs.

From my search, I also found references to the pink wire in the fuse block. That seems solidly attached.

What's next? The upper CB that apparently REALLY controls the windows, also appears to control the power seat. My seat is working fine.

Help, please?

Update:

After reading the old thread I decided to go take one more crack at the upper CB.

Close scrutiny showed that there was a regular 30 amp green plastic fuse in that spot instead of a CB.

I yanked the fuse. It was clearly blown. Installed the old CB that I had just replaced from the lower CB, and everything is working again.

I still don't understand why the power seat was still working.

Did I just witness some of Bubba's handiwork in replacing a CB with a regular fuse?

The forum comes through again.

Thanks DWncchs and Roger for your work in 2007!

Bubba has paid you a visit!! (Actually, his usual M.O. for fuses/circuit breakers is to duct tape a penny in place of the blown fuse. )
