Default Differentiall Confusion

I'm trying to research the differential in my vette because it needs a rebuild. I don't want to order the wrong parts but the information i find is indifferent to itself.

Advance Auto Parts tells me that it is an 8.75" ring gear. Two pieces of original literature found online tells me that it is an 8.375" ring gear.

Also, I thought the car had a 3.08 ratio. After researching the differential housing identification stamp, it says it a 1976-77 housing with 3.08 gears. But after disassembly, the pinion has 10 teeth. According to the 1974 Chevrolet Corvette Specifications literature i found online, it says that the 3.08 ratio should have a 12 tooth pinion.
Both ratios have a 37 tooth ring gear.

What do I have????

If your have it disassembled, then just count the number of teeth on the ring gear and divide it by the number of teeth on the pinion gear. That is your ratio

I would not use Advance for parts info.
Go online to vendors on this forum like Willcox, Corvette Central, Jegs, Summit, Van Steel, etc if you want good info.
Good luck

Thanks. its a 10 tooth pinion and a 37 tooth ring making it a 3.70 ratio.

I don't believe Advance on any information anymore. Seems like alot of parts I buy from there for the vette are wrong. So I will believe the two pieces of original literature saying that it is an 8.375" ring gear.

I pulled the 3.08 out of mine and put in 3.73s; from what I understand, it is/was a fairly common performance upgrade...I have a chart somewhere that shows that a 3.08 to 3.73 gear swap increases torque to the rear wheels by 21%. (It also reduces fuel economy by a gazillion percent ) If your gears need replacing, I recommend US Gears from Tom's Differentials. Here is a pic with the original gears on the left and the new ones on the right:
