Working on my 72, hasn't seen any asphalt in a number of years, but getting closer...Brakes...I hate the corrosive effects of brake fluid and would like to go to Silicone (brake fluid..) My brake components are basically new/rebuilt (never been driven since installed) but were charged with dot4 brake fluid. After one caliper leaked, I drained the fluid from the system and the calipers are now void of fluid.
Can I disassemble the calipers, clean them (dunk bath, carb cleaner), reassemble and add silicone fluid?? is it that easy??
Is it possible that I may not be able to get them clean enough and the silicone will be contaminated....OR, should I just plunk down the cash and get the professionally reconstituted parts and start completely clean????
Anybody been here before??
thanks

That will certainly work, and you probably don't even need to go that far (although it is the best method). We have switched many customers over to silicone by doing a thorough flush and fill with no problems. Many of those cars are still on the road with that same fluid from 20 years ago, so it must have worked out.
