My former 1979 with an automatic transmission had a small white pointer to indicate the position of the shifter (Park, Drive, etc.). My current 1974 with TH-400 does not have a pointer and I often wonder if it should be there?? I can't find one in the various catalogues.
....actually, sometime in '74-'75 maybe? a little fixed chrome pointer(or dash) was on one side of the shifter, maybe both sides? I remember my Late Silver '75 coupe had them and I've seen them on others too, just don't know when exactly they appeared. Some good interior pics on eBay will probably reveal some.

Thanks Paul. I just find it odd that GM would let you guess in what gear you are. Not a major issue: it was a slow day here and I was contemplating my navel.
