I want to get a hi-torque mini starter and have 2 questions.
#1 Do you use the brace in the back of the starter like a full size OEM?
#2 Do these starters use a solenoid similar to OEM so I can use the stock wiring?
Thanks 68 Vetteman
Some mini starters have only one small terminal. That would be used for the purple start wire. On the original there were two and the other was used for the 12 volt to the coil for starting only. The original wiring on 68 to 74 would have had a resistor wire that cut down the voltage to 9 volts (IIRC) for the coil when running. If you have removed the points on these years, you would have had to supply 12 volts to the HEI coil all the time, so the R connection on the solenoid is not needed, and that connection can be dropped ans taped off with this type of mini.
I did build a brace for mine mainly because I can. The original big starter will not work, it will be too short.
