Also, Chevrolet in their salesmen order books have it listed as model CORVETTE STING RAY .... The badge may say Stingray, but the paperwork says Sting Ray.

GM watched what the customizers were doing, another ex. look into the 68 El Camino based on the 64 El Camino custom by Harry Bradley.
So Chevy removed the emblems at least for the first & last years.
If you have a C6, nobody else has what you consider a Corvette because if it's not a C6 it's for the other 98% of America. But some C6 owners will grudgingly recognize the C1 and C2, which can be worth just as much and sometimes more.
If you have a C5, you are silently jealous of the C6 but you can't afford them, and it pisses you of that your car isn't worth more than a good C3.
C1 and C2 owners look down on everyone else except C6 owners. Many C1/C2 owners also own C6s.
C3 and C4 owners look down on each other. Why? Because nobody else respects either of us...
Within the C3.. Pre net HP owners look down on cars measured in net HP, chrome bumper owners look down on rubber bumper cars, tunnel-back owners look down on fastback owners, everyone looks down on the 75 because it had the least HP, and the 1969-1976 owners look down on anyone whose car didn't have a Stingray emblem.
As a true Corvette owner, the only car worth a crap is your own.

Well.............I guess that pretty much says it all, doesn't it?
Just to add some trivia that the whole reason for the Stingray name in the first place was that Dave McClellan was on the Board of Directors and was an avid deep sea fisherman in his off-life. Hence the Sting Ray name on the concept car, then later the production cars.
He retired in 1976, and the others dropped the name immediately on the 1977 production line. Someone mentioned seeing a GM brochure calling the 77 a Stingray, and that may well possibly be true. Except for the missing name, the notched "sugar scoop" back of the 77 was no different than a 76.
And yes, "Shark" is a wider group from 1963-1982. Pinched waist and gills.
