How can i tell if my starter is the original unit that came with the car ? I am looking to get a new one and don't want to turn the OE one in for a core....

The numbers and date will tell the tale.

I was thinking someone would say it had to be a certain style to be OE.
That's all the numbers I could see.

I think you have a '74 right??? here are the codes for '74 starters. That number does not come back as a corvette starter (any year) as far as I can tell (someone else may know better and can correct me if I'm wrong). If you find you don't have the correct starter I know a guy that rebuilds them, it aint cheap but it will be correct and rebuilt with a 12 month warrenty. PM me if you want to know more info.

Good luck, Tim

Corvette Starter Codes

Code Application
1108400 454 Engines with 4-Speed Manual
1108418 350 Engines with 4-Speed Manual
1108429 454 Engines with Turbo Hydra-Matic
1108430 350 Engines with Turbo Hydra-Matic

The date on that unit is April 4 1978. I can't find absolute proof of what it originally came on, but many links point to a Jeep.
