Need to discuss this with you guys.....

My 80 vette is burgandy whine in color. The paint is in top shape.
The interior is also in top shape. Red in color.
Seats are in vinyl. Dash is brand new with no flaws. Door panels are in good condition. Actually the inside looks top notch.

Two years ago I went to Carlisle and made the mistake of going to the Corvette America tent and oberved 1980 C3 seats in 100% leather....
I fell in love and had the bug since Now I want to spend $1000 to get leather seats.

Dilema:
Since my vette is "burgandy whine" and the inside is red, I think its a bit toooo much red. There is no contrast. The sad part is that everything in the cage is top notch. No tear in the seats, carpet and panels.

I'm debating in redoing the inside with black. Leather black seats and black carpet and dying all other items in black.

Dying the carpet. Is it worth spending the time and spraying/dying my carpet or spend $500 to get the real manufactured black carpet ?

I've read many threads about "dying" the carpets and can't seem to find out if it does a great job.
If I go that route, I will be spending at least $150 in paint and shipping since I'm up in the great white North ! If I'm to spend the above, I might simply just by the carpet set

Input anyone ?

All that's needed is some black. Red & black work great together. Have you considered red & black interior?

My 77 is basically red w/ some black.

 

Stock 1980 upholstery is leather with vinyl skirts. Did a PO swap out the original leather? If not, why spend $1000 for leather when you already have it?

Personally, I like the burgundy/red combo, but you can dye interior parts.

Find a SEM automotive interior dye dealer and pick a color you like. Based on what I've read, attempting to dye carpet is a chore and is likely not to give you the look you want. Purchase a new carpet set in your new color.

 

No problem doing what you want. If your seats are already leather (as Easy Mike mentioned), you can use SEM ColorCoat liquid recoloring agent [dye] and spray all of you interior components...including the seatcovers. You need to clean everything well. And, I suggest that, after cleaning them, you wipe the leather seats down with lacquer thinner to remove any surface oils immediately before you spray them. If you don't have spray equipment, buy a PreVal bottle/gas sprayer and about 4 extra gas canisters (total cost less than $30).

Just my .02, but I don't think black is the best color for the interior on a burgandy colored car. My choice would be a medium saddle interior. I just think it looks much better and classier with that body color.

Also, don't try to redye the carpets. Much too much trouble and, once you've removed the other interior stuff, it's pretty easy to install new carpet. Plus, 'old' carpet in a new interior just doesn't get it.

Its hard making the decision because all is such in good shape

What about grey charcoal colour. Grey does go with Burgandy...

What other "corvette" colour that would go with Burgandy besides black ?

I have seen C3 pictures with black and red interior colours. Nice but it didn't bite me

Gray will look BLAH with burgandy. Burgandy is a 'warm' color; gray isn't.

1980 interiors came in Black; Claret; Dark Blue; Doeskin; Oyster; and Red. Doeskin (light tan), Claret (dark red) and Black are the only [original] interior colors that would go well with the burgandy exterior, IMO. Since you already have a red interior and want to change, tan and black would be about it, I think.

 

what about white

 

That 'alternative' looks great with a white car. Not so sure how it would look on a burgandy C3....

 

Hang in there. You do not have to make a decision over night.

I'd Love to see pictures of your Burgandy Whine Vette! When I purchased my 73 the title says Purple is the color. This 73 already had a custom paint but the original color was red. I HATE saying my 73 is Purple.I perfer saying she is Plum. I'd love to have plates which say PLM CRZ but someone else in Missouri has that plate.

BTW my 73 has black vinyl interior but it looks great with a Plum exterior.
