There are 4 major criteria to decipher an engine. the 1st 2 are Casting numbers and will be raised letter cast into the metal. actually cast as part of the mold.
1. Engine block casting Code
2. Engine Block Casting Date

3. Engine Assembly Code and date plant stamp
4. VIN derivative

3 and 4 are stamped numbers ( NOT Cast ) into the metal flat pad

if you need info then provide all 4 of these.

there are head and intake casting numbers and dates also that you could provide that would help also.

No VIN derivative, so this was sold as an over the counter spare.

These are what is on the back flange of the block, the intake and the heads, I don`t see any letters on the rear flange of the block.

Thats it Ghost, I`m guessing it has 1.94 heads and was a low hp engine. But what threw me was the pad stamping it didn`t look like any I had seen before and since it had a 4 barrell and was in an old state cop car I thought it may be a 300 hp or large journal engine. I am gonna rebuild it to go in my 66 El Camino.
